NEW LEXINGTON – The Panthers comeback bid came up short in a 31-35 loss to West Muskingum.

New Lex took the early lead behind a Hunter Rose touchdown, but the visitors would rattle off 21 straight points before Caleb Jones got the Panthers on the board again with a 16-yard touchdown.

Trailing 28-13 at halftime, the Panthers fought back to make it a 28-28 game in the third quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Kellogg to Tatem Toth.

In the fourth, Kellogg nailed a 20-yard field goal attempt to give the hosts a three-point lead, but a 41-yard touchdown pass from the Harley Hopkins saw the Tornadoes take the lead for good.

New Lex will hit the road for a matchup at Tri Valley and the Scotties on Friday.
