Each year April is designated as Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Month in counties and states across the nation. On the second Wednesday in April, Perry County Children Services encourages all to Wear Blue to bring recognition and support to Child Abuse Prevention.

But while the spotlight shines a little brighter during April, Perry County Children Services is focused on prevention all year long. We are in a unique time in the history of child welfare. Federal legislation and funding has shifted to support prevention services. Traditionally, child welfare as a system has been a reactionary system, not a system designed to be upstream of a catastrophe involving a child. This shift in practice and funding will take some time to implement and brings with it a vast amount of change. Child welfare agencies have not escaped from the great resignation that is happening across the country.
