Chamber Luncheon, Jan. 15

Chamber members are encouraged to mark Wednesday, Jan. 15 on their calendars and plan to attend your business luncheon. It will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Strong & Co. Restaurant & Bar, 107 East Main Street, Somerset. (NE corner on the Somerset Square!)

Aaron Dagres, Partnership Specialist with the US Census Bureau, will be the guest speaker. Dagres will share lots of important and timely information about the upcoming 2020 census. Everyone needs to be counted!!

Reservations are not required, but we would like a tentative head count. Please call the Chamber Office at 740-342-3547 or email us at pcccofc@yahoo.com by 10 a.m. on the 15th with numbers. You will have your choice between their special burger (with choice of trimmings) or their chicken breast sandwiches, plus choice of fries or salad with either sandwich. This lunch will be offered for $15 which also includes dessert, beverage and gratuity. This program is open to the public!

Groundhog Breakfast, Jan. 31

Invitations/reservation materials have been sent out for this fifth annual event which will be held on Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2020 at Sheridan High School from 6-8:30 a.m.

Urban Meyer, former Head Football Coach for The Ohio State University Buckeyes and currently the Assistant Athletics Director, Athletics Initiatives and Relations, will be our keynote speaker.

Special thanks to Mount Perry Propane for being the Corporate.

This event is open to the public, but has limited seating. Please contact the Chamber of Commerce Office right away for tickets. Tickets are going fast.

Board of Directors Election Results

Jeannie Allen, Casey Coffey, Polly Pletcher and Chad Seurkamp have been re-elected to new three-year terms on your 12-member Board of Directors.

2020 Buckeye Lake Winterfest, Jan. 25

Be at the North Shore boat ramp on Saturday, Jan. 25 for the Kickoff of the Buckeye Lake Winterfest. Festivities begin at 6:30 a.m. “Benny the Bass” will make his prognostication of spring followed by dawn fireworks over the Lake. Then enjoy your weekend as venues all around the Buckeye Lake Region host everything from art shows to band competitions.

The weekend is capped by the “Polar Plunge” at noon on Sunday at the Buckeye Lake Winery. Full details are posted at “Buckeye Lake Winterfest” on Facebook.

Holiday Scenic Train Ride Results

Approximately 500 riders boarded the Z & W/Mt. Perry Scenic Train over the weekends of Dec. 7-8 and 14-15. Two truckloads of toys and non-perishable food items were delivered to food pantries and churches throughout Perry County. Thanks to everyone that rode, helped promote, etc., this annual offering in Perry County.

2020 Chamber Membership Information

Thanks to all of you who have already renewed your Chamber membership for 2020. We certainly appreciate your support! Hopefully the rest of you can still locate the membership renewal materials that were sent out last month. We will be sending “Second Notices” soon, so you can save us postage, etc. by completing the requested materials and sending that in along with your payment.

Also, any leads, help, etc. that you can provide to potential new members, in or outside the county would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your involvement in your Chamber of Commerce.

EAGLE Award Offered

The Chamber of Commerce is again accepting applications (not a competition!) for the EAGLE (Economic Achievement through Growth, Leadership and Excellence) Award. The purpose is to recognize and celebrate economic investment by businesses and industries throughout Perry County.

All area businesses and industries that made a tangible investment or improvement in buildings, machinery, inventory, or other business assets that resulted in the creation or retention of jobs, increase tax base and other forms of economic growth in 2018 or 2019 are encouraged to apply. A complete listing of participating businesses and their discount offerings, along with special cards for all your employees, should be sent to you by the end of January.

If your business would like to offer a special discount to chamber members and their employees: (1) complete the information on the membership renewal form in your packet or (2) contact the Chamber Office and let us know of your interest.

Free Tax Preparation

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties is offering free tax preparation. Most individuals with an adjusted gross income of up to $65,000 or married filing jointly with an AGI up to $95,000 can file with them. To make an appointment, just dial 2-1-1 or 1-800-544-1601.The libraries in Crooksville, New Lexington, and Somerset are locations where you can meet with licensed representatives.

Interim Healthcare is looking for volunteers who can offer companionship, share talents/hobbies, offer spiritual support or veteran support.
