NEW LEXINGTON — Perry County District Library has a summer calendar of events packed with fun — something for everyone! Start your summer with a great concert as the libraries in New Lexington and Thornville begin their free summer concert series.

Music on the Lawn (New Lexington) will feature the Perry Morgan Pickers playing bluegrass, gospel and country on Friday, June 7 at 6 p.m. while Music on the Front Porch (Thornville) will feature Joey Adams, at 6 p.m. that same evening.

Monday, June 10, summer reading programs for children, tweens, teens, and adults begin at all Perry County District Library locations. Visitors of all ages can register to participate in “A Universe of Stories!” All participants will earn prizes for enjoying great books and fun programs.

Those registering the first week will be placed in a drawing for two tickets to Kings Island, who is also sponsoring this giveaway. The team at McDonalds of New Lexington is also sponsoring the children’s summer program by providing each participating child with a book and Wendy’s is offering special prizes for summer participants.

There are new and exciting additions to the summer programs. Stories with Jax, will be held at the Somerset Branch Library, June 12 (10:30 a.m.), June 19 (6 p.m.), July 10 (10:30 a.m.) and July 17 (6 p.m.). This program will feature a fun new story accompanied by time with Jax, a Black Lab therapy dog, and his trainer, Deb Masterson.

Minecraft Café for teen and tweens will be held each Thursday, June 13 — July 18, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the New Lexington library location. Participants can bring their own device or use one of the library laptops!

Storytimes, tween programs, teen programs and adult programs begin the week of June 10. Storytimes will be held on Mondays (Crooksville, 10:30 a.m.; Junction City, 1 p.m.), Tuesdays (Somerset, 10:30 a.m.; Thornville, 1 p.m.), Wednesdays (New Lexington, 10:30 a.m.) and Fridays (Corning, 10:30 a.m.)

Free lunches will be served for anyone under the age of 18 at the Corning Branch on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. beginning June 10. The first Family Night event, featuring PAWS & CLAWS, a live animal show featuring a kangaroo, will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. (New Lexington Library).

Tweens in Space programs for kids ages 9-12 will be held at all locations weekly: Mondays (Crooksville Park, 11 a.m.); Tuesdays (Thornville, 11 a.m. and Somerset, 3 p.m.); Wednesdays (Junction City, 11 a.m.); Thursdays (New Lexington, 6 p.m.); and Fridays (Corning, 12:30 p.m.).

Craft programs for both teens and adults will be held weekly and will feature unique DIY crafts to create and take home. In addition Jim Kleefield will present Ohio’s Romantic Tragedies, Wednesday, July 17 at 6 p.m.

Music on the Lawn at New Lexington will continue each Friday evening at 6 p.m. through July 12. This summer’s lineup includes: Perry Morgan Pickers, June 7, Evan Seurkamp, 6 p.m.; and Vital Signs, 7 p.m., June 14; Joey Adams, June 21; Perry County Senior Center Pantry Players, June 28; and Joy in the Morning Ministries with Jeremy Shank, July 12.

Music on the Front Porch will be held at the Thornville Branch on Fridays at 6 p.m. during the month of June. This summer’s lineup features: Joey Adams, June 7; Perry Morgan Pickers, June 14; and Joy in the Morning Ministries with Jeremy Shank, June 28. In addition, the Somerset Branch will have a special Saturday concert featuring the Perry-Morgan Pickers on June 15 at 1 p.m.

Family Nights will be held each Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the New Lexington Library and will include: Paws & Claws, June 11; Mr. Molecule’s Bing, Bang, Boom!, June 18; The Incredibles Night, June 25; Unexpected Flying Objects with Tony Steinback, July 2; Didgeridoo Space Adventure, July 9; and To Infinity & Beyond! Planetarium Experience, July 16, sponsored by The Perry County Tribune with a donation from the Evening With Santa program.

In addition, special daytime family programs will be held at branch library locations and a Family Night program will be held at the Perry County Fair!
