NEW LEXINGTON – After more than a year of being shutdown due to COVID and Gov. Mike Dewine’s health mandates, The Perry County Senior Center celebrated their re-grand opening last week.
To welcome everyone back, the Center, along with The Perry County Senior Task Force, hosted a cookout type meal and vendor event.
The Perry County Tribune, which is also a member of the Task Force and The Perry County Health Network, was also on hand to help celebrate.
A group of members from the Health Network – Brenda Carney of The Perry County Tribune and David Weber of National Telemed Solutions, both co-chairs of the Network, as well as Dawn Legg and Sonya Pollock of Interim Healthcare; Denise Wingard of County Lane Gardens; Jackie Howard of American Nursing Care; and Ruth Liff Gray of Americorp/Retired Senior Volunteer Program – partnered together with a twist on an old favorite, the Toss Across game.
Each of the X’s and O’s on the game board were replaced with various prizes including pens, pencils, stress balls, notepads, luggage tags, sticky notes, hand sanitizer, hats and tissues. Players were invited to toss the beanbags and whichever square turned over first was their prize.
Seniors were also able to register for one of six specialty baskets the Health Network group gave away. Most of the baskets were designed to keep seniors minds active with four puzzle baskets, one themed “things to do with your grandchildren,” and one laundry basket filled with laundry supplies.
Other participants who set up at the event to welcome the seniors back were representatives from Shivers Hospice, Genesis Lung Services, Hospice of Central Ohio, SKLD New Lexington, Fairhope Hospice, Highland Oaks, Riverside Landing and Genesis Healthcare. Many of these also gave away prize baskets and door prizes too.
Both The Senior Task Force and Perry County Health Network hold regular monthly meetings. The Task Force normally meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Senior Center (this month they are foregoing that meeting for Senior Day at the fair). For more info on those meetings please contact Senior Center Director Jeanne Goodin.
