SHAWNEE — Weather is believed to have played a role in the damage of a historic building on Main Street Monday, when a portion of a brick and mortar ledge came tumbling from the roof of the Oddfellow building to the sidewalk and street below.

High winds and rain in the area Monday morning are believed to have been contributing factors in the damage. The sidewalk was empty at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

“We were lucky that no one was hurt,” said Shawnee mayor Rene Brunton. “We held our second Saturday event over the weekend and a group of church ladies had a booth at that same spot.”

Brunton said she plans to contact building owner Rob Dishon about conducting a safety inspection for the building. The portion of Main Street under the building has been reduced to a single lane until it can be inspected. The owner of the building, Rob Dishon, was unavailable for comment.
