SOMERSET — Tara Layne, 35, director at Fairview Assisted Living, was arrested by Somerset police on Wednesday Nov. 25, on a charge of domestic violence. The Perry County Sheriff received a 911 call that made its way to Somerset Police Sgt. Aaron May.
May reports that he received the call at 5:57 p.m. Wednesday. After arriving at Layne’s Somerset home and interviewing those involved in the situation, Sgt. May ascertained that Tara Layne was the primary physical aggressor. She was then arrested on a domestic violence charge which is a first-degree misdemeanor. She was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville, Ohio.
Layne was arraigned in Perry County Municipal Court on Friday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. where she pled not guilty, and was released on a recognizance bond. Conditions of the bond include no alcohol or drugs, and no contact with the victim while the case is pending. No court date has been set at this time.
The juvenile victim in the case refused medical treatment. The other parent of the juvenile agreed that medical treatment was unnecessary. Sgt. May reports no further investigation into the matter is required unless new information comes to light.
On Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, the Board of Perry County Commissioners placed Layne on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. The commissioners had no further comment about the incident.
