A round-up of all things Perry County…
Cold on Saturday, but that didn’t stop our family from venturing out to explore Perry County. I am the Region Editor for APG Ohio, so I want to know more about the county and its people.

Much praise goes to Elks lodge #509 in New Lexington who will be serving a free Thanksgiving dinner between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday in the lodge’s basement at 109 S. Main Street – eat in or carryout. Everyone is welcome.
Perry County Consortium of Catholic Parishes’ annual Turkey Trot 5k run, trot or walk will take place starting at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at St. Rose School Parking Lot, 119 West Water Street.
New Lexington’s Fire and EMS Department is preparing for its annual toy drive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at the fire station. Toys will be new and unwrapped. Toys will be distributed to kids in need. For more information, contact the fire department (740) 342-4535.
Strong supporters of public libraries, our family stopped at the Perry County District Library in New Lexington. Very nice place.
Apparently, the library in conjunction with the Perry Genealogical Society and the Perry County Historical and Cultural Arts Society is gathering oral histories from folks. Goal of this project is to accumulate stories and histories so that future generations might gain insight into the county’s rich history. Stories will be saved and made available to the pubic in a digital format.
Recorders and instructions are available at all Perry County District Library locations and can be used on-site or checked-out with a library card. A guided recording session with a representative from these organizations (listed above) or a volunteer can also be scheduled by contacting the library.
For more information, contact the library at 740-342-4194 or email jgilmer@pcdl.org
Peoples State Bank recently held a groundbreaking for the new ATM machine that will be located at the 4-way in Shawnee. That’s good news.
Speaking of Shawnee, Shawnee VFD extinguished an attic fire Nov. 15 in the 300 block of West Walnut Street, according to the fire department. No one was injured. Mutual aid was received from New Lexington Fire, Junction City EMS, Monday Creek Fire and Crooksville Fire & EMS.
Corning has some nice looking historic churches that look like they would be a good place to worship – Saint Bernard Catholic Church and Bethany United Methodist Church. Lot of nice little towns and farmhouses up SR 13.
