SALT LICK TOWNSHIP – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash on state Route 93 at milepost 5 just outside of Shawnee in Perry County. The crash occurred on Jan. 15 at approximately 05:14 p.m.
According to the Highway Patrol Jeffrey R. Hook, 24, of Logan was traveling southbound on state Route 93 in a black 2006 Hyundai Tucson when he drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Mr. Hook was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. Mr. Hook suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
The right front passenger, Isaac R. Hook, age 18, of Athens also suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the scene. Mr. Hook was not wearing his seatbelt.
The right rear passenger was a 14-year-old juvenile. The juvenile was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The juvenile died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The juvenile was transported from the scene to Roberts Winegardner Funeral Home in New Lexington.
Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Members of the Perry County Coroner’s Office, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, New Lexington Fire Department, Shawnee Fire Department, and Somerset Police Department were on scene.
