THORNVILLE – The Sheridan Generals baseball team swept Meigs in a double header on April 24, winning the first game 10-1 and the second 23-5.
Sheridan jumped out to an early lead in the first game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. The Generals scored on an error, a double by Tyler Talbot, a sac fly by Ethan Malone, and a double by Chris Brison.
The highlight of the game occurred in the top of the third. With two runners on, freshman Caden Sheridan leaped and snagged a line drive at third, threw it to Chris Brison, who then threw it to Tyler Talbot at first for an inning ending triple play.
The Generals scored another run in the third and four more in the fifth. In the fifth, Jesse Gillenwater crushed a three-run double and scored on a wild pitch.
Malone got the win in Game one for the hosts. Malone allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
It was more Sheridan in game two, both the team and the player. The freshman was a home run shy of the cycle as he gave Meigs fits, sparking the Generals’ offense as they scored 23 runs on 17 hits. Sheridan scored 12 runs in just the fourth inning.
Corey Amspaugh got the game two victory on the bump, surrendering five runs on four hits over five innings, and striking out four.
