WELLSTON — The Ceramics brought their power to the tournament on Feb. 25 with a big 52-48 win over Green and a Sectional title to bring back home to Crooksville.
Crooksville outscored Green right off the bat in the first quarter with Tyler Rambo leading the way with two layups.
The Ceramics strung together shots from the shaded area with Colt White, Caden Miller and Caden Sparks each making a layup of their own.
Sparks and Miller were the only two to take advantage from the charity line as they went 5-5 combined.
Despite Green draining a three, their fouls on Crooksville gave Big C the lead.
Green took over the second quarter as Trevor Darnell was consistently under the net, completing seven shaded-area shots.
Green had one more three-point drain to extend their quarter score to 18 over Crooksville’s eight.
Besides Brayden Cavinee and Blake White scoring two pointers, Crooksville was routine to the foul line.
With only eight points in the second quarter, Green had the close 29-23 lead over Crooksville.
The Ceramics brought life to their play in the second half as no feet were touching the charity line for the first time all game.
Crooksville worked as a team offensively with eight total field goals from inside the arc.
Miller and Sparks each had two while Colt, Rambo and Blake each added one extra shot to their board.
Their defense stopped Green from scoring more than 10, but Green’s second quarter was so influential that they still had the lead over Crooksville, 39-37.
The final quarter was almost given to Crooksville. Although Sparks had six points total, Miller had two and Colt drained a three, the following four points were from the foul line.
If it was not for Green’s fouls on the Ceramics, their nine points would have pushed the game into overtime at 48 for each team.
Green outscored Crooksville outright, but with 18 attempts from the free-throw line, the game belonged to Big C.
The Ceramics took advantage of what Green gave them and claimed the Sectional title as extra.
Crooksville will compete in the District semifinal on Monday, March 2 at Ohio University at the Convocation Center. Game time is 6:15 p.m.
