THORNVILLE – The Sheridan baseball team hit a walk-off win yet again, this time on April 12 against River View.
In a huge matchup for the MVL standings, Jesse Gillenwater wasted no time in getting things going with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. River View, however, tied things up in the top of the third with an Austin Bahmer RBI single.
The score would stay that way thanks to strong pitching performances from both sides. Nate Johnson (Sheridan) struck out nine on the day, and Aaron Ward (River View) struck out three.
Both teams left runners stranded throughout the game, as neither team could break through. Sheridan left runners on in the the fifth and sixth innings, while River View couldn’t cash in runs in the sixth.
Then, in the bottom of the seventh with one out, Corey Amspaugh (2-3 on the day) singled. Amspaugh then stole second with Blaine Hannan at the plate. On a 1-1 count, Hannan rips a single through the infield to center, scoring Hannan and giving the hosts their second walk-off this season.
Johnson took the win for the Generals. The senior went all seven innings, allowing one run on three hits
Ward allowed six hits and two runs over six and a third innings in the loss.
