Both the girls and boys Crooksville basketball teams won Monday, the girls over Coshocton by a score of 54-47, and the boys over Miller by a margin of 72-46.
In the girls’ game the Coshocton Redskins took a 14-12 lead in the first quarter of play, sinking six baskets including a three-pointer as well as one free throw.
The Ceramics came back to take the lead in the second period, outscoring Coshocton 9 to 5 to pull ahead 21-19.
Both teams went on scoring runs in the third quarter, with Crooksville putting 19 points on the board and Coshocton not far behind with 18. This made it a close 40-37 game with Crooksville leading by three.
The Ceramics held on and increased their lead in the final period, coming out on top by a final score of 54-47.
Leading the way in scoring for the Ceramics was forward McKenna Headley, who put up six two-pointers and made five of 10 foul shots for a total of 17 points on the night.
Not far behind were forward Grace Frame and guard Jailynn Theisen, with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Keeley Murray led the way for Coshocton, sinking eight two-pointers and one three, and adding three of her four free throws to finish the game with 22 points.
In the boys’ game against the Miller Falcons, Crooksville won by an even wider margin.
After Miller outscored the Ceramics 19-17 in the first quarter, Crooksville pulled ahead in the second and just kept extending their lead from there. They were leading by 42-30 at the end of the first half, 58-38 at the end of the third, and finished the game with 72 points to the Falcons’ 36.
Blake White and Caden Sparks were top scorers for Crooksville, notching 23 and 21 points respectively. Braden Cavinee contributed another 12.
