NEW LEXINGTON – The Lady Ceramics beat New Lex for the second time this season with a 7-1 victory on April 26.
New Lexington softball opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. After Phoenix Williamson singled and advanced to second on an ensuing ground ball, Bryanna Wright singled on a 2-2 count, scoring Williamson and putting the hosts on the board first.
Crooksville answered right back with four runs of their own in the top of the third. Logyn Chamberlin got things started with a walk and advanced on a Sonni Nelson ground ball. Chamberlin advanced to third on a wild pitch. Abby Wilson was able to get McKenna Headley to ground into a fielder’s choice, but Chamberlin was safe at the plate to tie things up.
After Crooksville took the lead off an error, Jaylynn Nelson singled on a 3-2 count that scored two runs and put the visitors ahead 4-1.
In the top of the sixth the Lady Ceramics would get their final two runs on the board, as Lacie O’Neal ripped an RBI single that scored one run, and Lelila Kennedy scored on an error at first.
Headley earned the win in the circle, lasting all seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out four and walking zero.
Wilson took the loss for the hosts. The freshman went three innings, allowing two hits and four runs.
Offensively, Phoenix Williamson led New Lexington Softball with two hits in three at bats. Lacie O’Neal went 2-for-4 at the dish to lead Crooksville in hits.
