THORNVILLE – Days after clinching their fifth straight MVL title and first in the Big School Division, the Sheridan girls’ basketball team cemented an undefeated league record in a 57-37 win over Maysville on Feb 8.
This was the Lady Generals first 1st undefeated MVL regular season since 2003-04.
The highly anticipated game got off to a slow start, with the score being tied at six just after the first quarter. Things picked up in the second, and the score was even at 20 going into halftime.
Sheridan turned up the heat in the third quarter, with Faith Stinson scoring eight points, including a couple of threes. Stinson and Beckstedt scored 40 combined points, 30 of those coming in the second half.
The fourth quarter showed why Coach JD Walters and Co. are some of the best closers in high school basketball.
Beckstedt scored 11 points en route to a 20-point quarter for the Lady Generals. Their fourth quarter defense was even more impressive, holding the visitors to just one made field goal. The Lady Generals coasted the rest of the way and kept their undefeated record in check.
