PICKERINGTON – Sheridan made it close, but John Glenn held on for a 4-2 win in a Division II Regional semifinal on May 25.
“We had our shot, we had our chances,” Sheridan Head Coach Troy Wolfe said. “They made more plays than we did ultimately.”
The Lady Muskies got off to an early lead thanks to home runs from Hannah Bendle and Sydney Marshall.
After John Glenn scored another in the third to make it 4-0, senior Cate Conrad hit a two-run shot in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit in half. The Lady Generals, with all the confidence in the world, certainly weren’t making it easy for the Lady Muskies.
“I think we played well, I just don’t think our bats were hot today,” Conrad said. “We had a few hits, some key moments, but it wasn’t enough.”
With score still 4-2 in the top of the seventh, Avery Davis hit a double to left field with two outs. Davis advanced to third on a ground ball, but Marshall held firm in the circle to strike out Addison Grosse and advance to the regional final.
The loss puts an end to the Lady Generals season that included a sectional title as well as a district title before a Sweet 16 appearance. Sheridan’s final record was 21-8.
The Lady Generals are graduating not only Conrad but Payge Nihiser and Cali Baird as well, three players who have contributed to some of the best years in Sheridan softball history.
