Girls Basketball: Sheridan vs Crooksville 1/5/21

Meg Saffell of Sheridan drives to the hoop in the Lady Generals’ 60-28 victory over Crooksville.

THORNVILLE – Faith Stinson hit four threes in the first half as Sheridan rolled to a 60-28 victory over Crooksville on Jan. 5.

Faith, Jamisyn Stinson, Bailey Beckstedt, and Halle Warner all got going in the first for the Lady Generals. Beckstedt and both Stinson sisters hit a triple, and Nora Saffell had a clutch and-one opportunity as Sheridan scored 18 points in the first. Ellie Ferguson was the only player on the scoresheet for Crooksville after one with four points.

In the second quarter Faith Stinson was looking comfortable from deep, draining three from beyond the arc as the senior scored 13 of the hosts’ 23 points. Crooksville could only muster six points and Sheridan held a 41-10 advantage at half.

“Faith hit four out of five, and I think last game she hit five, so she’s hit like nine threes the last two games,” Sheridan Head Coach JD Walters said. “She can shoot it. That allows her, when she’s struggling to knock some shots in or they have a big strong post inside, she can knock down those shots, which makes her a high-level player.”

Coming out of half, Jamisyn Stinson hit two threes and Sheridan’s defense held Crooksville to just single digits yet again. Saffell and Dupler also hit some shots for the hosts.

The fourth quarter was all Crooksville, as McKenna Headley scored eight and the Lady Ceramics outscored Sheridan 12-6. Riley McKenzie and Grace Sheets also scored for the visitors. Despite winning the fourth, the deficit was too much to overcome as the final score read 60-28.

“They had a big lead on us, and I told the girls ‘Listen, don’t hang your heads, come out, work on us, and get better,’” Crooksville Head Coach Matt Jones said. “This a team that you want to face, this is a team you look up to and want to be at some point. They’re a great team and they’ve got everything they need.”

Faith Stinson led all scorers with 22 points. Jamisyn Stinson had 16, and Beckstedt added nine.

Headley led the Lady Ceramics with 13 points in the loss.
