NEW LEXINGTON – The Lady Tornadoes scored three runs in the third inning, but the New Lex softball team hung on for a 5-4 win on April 12.
West Muskingum got the scoring going in the first as Katlynn Foster hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.
The Lady Panthers answered in the bottom of the second. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kylie Fink scorched a line drive single to left, scoring Soraya Taylor and Phoenix Williamson.
The third inning saw the most action, as Lacie McPeck hit an RBI single to make the score 4-2 for a three-run top of the third.
New Lex, however, would score three runs of their own in the third. Two costly errors by the West Muskingum defense scored two New Lex runs, and Phoenix Williamson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring another. This put the Lady Panthers ahead for good.
Abby Wilson earned the win in the circle. The freshman allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings while striking out four.
McPeck took the loss for the visitors. McPeck lasted six innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out six.
Offensively, the hosts racked up five hits. Lydia Stephens and Williamson each had multiple hits to lead the Lady Panthers.
Foster went 2-for-4 to lead the Lady Tornadoes at the plate.
