CROOKSVILLE – The Lady Ceramics softball team scored first and never looked back in a 13-2 win over New Lexington.
McKenna Headley got the hosts on the board first with an RBI double. Lacie O’Neal, the ensuing batter, singled to score Headley, making the score 2-0 after the first.
The hosts scored at least one run in every inning, capitalizing on Lady Panther errors. In the bottom of the third, Gracie Peck doubled to left field, scoring two more runs. In the bottom of the fourth, O’Neal singled home Sonni Nelson.
The Lady Panthers, however, fought back in the top of the fifth. Abby Wilson launched her first home run of the season to straight center for two runs.
The Lady Ceramics saw that and responded.
Crooksville broke it open, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sonni Nelson singled, Logyn Chamberlin scored on a pass ball, and O’Neal hit a sacrifice fly. To top it all off, Jaylynn Nelson launched a three-run moonshot to center field, ending the game at 13-2.
Headley went the distance for the hosts and got the win, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out nine.
Lydia Stephens took the loss for the visitors, allowing two earned runs on five hits across three innings. Abby Wilson gave up six earned runs in relief.
